starwars masthead

The excitement produced by the prerelease publicity, for the first film, left the public craving for any magazine images that gave a glimpse of what was to come. Star Wars, with revolutionary effects, costumes and settings was about to transport the public to a galaxy far, far away in a timeless story of good and evil.  Magazines published pictures of strange looking aliens, white armour clad soldiers, strange robots (later to be called droids) light saber carrying characters all in alien settings. We were about to be introduced to a phenomena that was going to change the way we viewed science fiction as well as changing what was now possible in movie making.

Pictured above is the art work from Micro Machines STAR WARS  ACTION FLEET. The set is titled "The Death Star Action Fleet Set". The Empire's armoured space station opens into exterior-interior action playset. It features Emperor Palpatine, Imperial Royal Guard, Stormtrooper, Lord Darth Vader, Imperial Gunner and Imperial Pilot. The set also includes Lord Vader's battle damaged Tie fighter, pictured below. This set was one of many aimed at collectors as well as children. The set was made by Lewis Galoob Toys in 1995. It is one on the many micro sets that enable collectors to build their own STAR WARS galaxy at home.

A strange assortment of vehicles  were introduced with the release of each new film.

Some vehicles were fun while others were just huge, mean and awesome. It added to the anticipation with fans left wondering what strange new machines would loom up to confront our adventurers.
